Sanding is often described as one of the least enjoyable tasks because of the time it takes. But this dusty, tedious task has a big payoff when it’s done well. So, when you’re faced with a large surface area that needs sanding, you need a tool that’s going to power through quickly to deliver professional results. For this reason, SMART have developed the 115mm Circular Sanding Pad that’s perfect to sanding large areas quickly.
SMART have developed a 16-piece sanding kit specifically for multi-tools that’s designed to sand large surface areas quickly. This kit contains a 115mm circular sanding pad and 16 sanding sheets in a range of grit discs, including 60, 80, 120 and 180. So, when you’re faced with a drywall sanding scenario, particularly in a tight space, a pole sander would be tricky to manoeuvre. Plus, if you’re not careful, you can easily flip the sander over and gouge the surface, causing extra repair work. However, the SMART sanding pad is just as effective at sanding in tight areas, while achieving excellent surface results.
1. Prep the surface
It’s important to prepare the surface first for sanding by cleaning the surface with a damp cloth. Ensure the surface is dry before you start sanding. You will also want to decide which grit disc is suitable for the job. For heavy sanding and stripping you will need coarse sandpaper measuring 60 grit. For smoothing surfaces and removing small imperfections, choose the 80 or 120 grit. Whereas 180 is a finer grit which is ideal for removing scratches left by coarser grits on unfinished wood and lightly sanding between coats of paint.
2. Attach the tool
When you’re ready to use your multi-tool, stick the required sanding sheet to the sanding pad and attach to your multi-tool.
3. Start sanding slow
Begin sanding the surface on a low setting whilst applying a light but even pressure. This will ensure you attain a smooth and even finish. As you progress, you’ll likely find you need to increase the speed of your multi-tool, so use your best judgement as being too hasty can leave visible scratches in the material.
Top tip: Know when to stop! Be careful not to over sand a single area to prevent the surface from becoming uneven and distorted.
