Cutting out and fitting socket boxes in plasterboard is a daily job for a sparky, but it can sometimes be a struggle without the right tool. Cut the hole too small and you have to recut it. Almost all construction projects require socket box holes, but electricians currently create them with handsaws which is time consuming and sometimes inaccurate. 1. Mark the outline
Draw a guide by tracing the outline of the electrical box on the wall. Use a spirit level to ensure the socket box is level.

3. Make the cut
Starting on one end, begin cutting through the plasterboard and follow the outline you have drawn.
