How to effectively reposition a stud wall

Posted 10 Mar 2022

How many times have you built stud partitioning with the doors where the drawing says to put the doors and your customer wants to reposition the door even though their architect told you put it there? These on-site changes are a common problem many tradespeople face. But with the right tool it is it fairly straight forward to overcome. In fact, SMART have developed the perfect tool that will get you out of jail in these awkward scenarios. Introducing the SMART 44mm Bi-Metal blade.

What is the 44mm Bi-Metal Blade?

The Bi-Metal blade is a multi-tool accessory which is designed for cutting wood, nails and non-ferrous metals. This blade offers universal cutting up to 51mm deep and is recognised as a ‘safe’ option for cutting timber with hidden nails and screws. However, this blade is equally as effective at cutting through timber as it is cutting through nails and screws.

When you need to reposition a stud, you would generally need to remove the screws and nails before cutting through the wood. This is because a standard wood blade would break instantly when it has come into contact with a screw or nail. However, the Bi-Metal blade will allow you to cut through your fixings with the confidence that once the blade meets the screw, the blade will power on through.

How to reposition a stud with the Bi-Metal Blade

1. Attach the blade to your multi-tool

When you are ready to use your multi-tool, attach the SMART Bi-Metal blade to your multi-tool.

2. Remove the fixing

Begin to cut through the fixing and ensure you are continuously moving the blade side to side in a hack saw motion. The hack saw motion is the best way to increase the life of your blade as it helps to spread the load across the teeth. Otherwise your blade will rapidly wear down as only a few of the teeth will be doing the work.

3. Reposition the stud

Once the fixing is removed, slide the stud along and reposition in its new place.
